I have access to all the timing values I need. I can use the timing graph too (another post about a month ago questioned this). For the limited times I use the set-up I am very happy with my purchase. But, I guess you can never go wrong with purchasing one of the Ross-Tech cables/dongles. I think a lot of the complaints with VCDS Lite are from folks that didn't pay the shareware fee and are using the crippled version that has many of the most valuable features disabled. I'm actually using the latest version, didn't realise the sofware was free until I look at the ross tech site a while back. The only free software from Ross Tech is the shareware version of VCDS-Lite. VCDS has never been free. Every Ross Tech customer who has purchased a Ross Tech interface has paid $99 for the software, that price is built into the cost. As such, they can use the software. Also, my point is that I do have a clone cable and when I plug the clone cable in a ballon appears thats says a usb interface connected, I also have a ross tech cable and when I plug in what I've been told is a true ross tech cable a ballon appears stating that a ross tech hex-usb cable has been plugged in. So, tell me, do clone cables tell you, when you plug them into the computer, via a ballon, that they are true ross tech cables or not? If so then I've been stitched up and sorry for wasting your time but if not then what do I need to do to make the cable work all the time?

Also can you tell me how 'santos' checked it without the serial number? Only he asked what the cable looked like I have original Ross-tech cable. And I can install it in any computer and it will work with no problem right a way. Santos is in tech support in Ross-Tach, and he know for years how cables looks like.Like I said i never seen original Ross-Tech cable with version number on it. Also I have 2 laptops I am working with, and guess what, both of them,with out plug in cable,in software shoving same serial number. So serial number can be clone. Hello all,I bought a cheap VAGcom cable, off ebay, and am struggling to get it to work. It came with a mini CD so I (copied it to a USB stick as well as VCDS Lite from Ross Tech) put it on my netbook. I ran the exe file Release4091us.exe which seemed to install a VAGcom programme. When I plug the lead into the computer the usual windows messages pop up about a new device and installing drivers, so I browse for the c: Program Files Vag Com folder but it doesn't find the drivers. When I open VAG-Com Release 409-1 and go to options and select USB and click Test it doesn't work (obviously). I also installed VCDS Lite, and noticed that this doesn't have a USB option.
I'm only asking for help to get this sorted. P.S I can use the full version 3 times before the licence issue comes up, and all I have to do to sort it is reinstall vag-com and it's ok again.

I bought an Inexpensive OBDII-USB cable for using it with the free version of VCDS LITE (Ross Tech VCDS software). For the VAG COM OBD Cables, just make a search on the net for: VAG-COM USB 409.1 cable OBD2 KKL for AUDI VW SKODA. Here's the cable I bought: I am using Window 8 so I am not sure if using Window XP or Window 7 the installation can be different. VCDC LITE program need a COM port to work. Since the VAG COM cable has a USB connector, you need to install FIRST the CD/software drivers so your USB port can emulate a COM port. This is the CD that comes with the VAG COM Cable. However, the easier thing is to connect the VAG COM cable to your lap top via the USB connector and Window will detect it and automatically will find and install the required drivers so you will not need to install the CD that comes with the VAG COM Cable.
