Hey there, For some reason I have yet to determine, the Dolby Surround Sound software for my Gamecom 788 headset won't open properly. It will begin to start, but hang at around 2700-2900k according to task manager, and never move from there.
The Setup So it was game time, lights were off, doors were closed, and cat firmly established in the feeding position in another room (I was well aware that there could be a bit of an issue were she to jump up at an opportune moment causing me to re-invent the Fosbury Flop) A quick visit to the Plantronics website and I was downloading the 7.1 surround software and ready to go with no problems (I was expecting a lot of faffing around to get it to work but all was well). Now I’m fortunate to live in a small village just outside of Glasgow, the upside of this is that when you turn off the lights, it’s actually dark, so all that was in my field of vision was the monitor, I couldn’t see anything else. Let's Rock!!!
Gamecom Plantronics 780 in windows 10 Can't install gamecom 780 Dolby drivers on win10 - 'wizard was interrupted before install. System not been modified' There is any solutions of this yet?? Compatibility settings doesn't work. EASIEST Gamecom 780/788 Windows 10 driver install. This is the easiest way to install the surround software for the Plantronics Gamecom 780/788 on windows 10. This will primarily improve durability when being handled with less care, but also enables users who like the headset resting around the neck. The headset has a few sliders and buttons on the left ear phone: mic mute/unmute, volume, and Dolby surround. I find it easier to use the buttons on my keyboard, though they'd be appreciated if none were present on other peripherals. This same ear phone supports the swiveling, bendy microphone. The mic has just enough give for positioning closer to (or further from) the user's mouth.
I've found mic quality to be relatively high (it was used for our, if you're curious) when compared to competing products. Final Thoughts Plantronics has returned with its GameCom 780 in new flair and hasn't messed with a working formula. The 788 is effectively the same as the 780 for all audio purposes, so if you haven't yet bought the GameCom 780 and need a sub-$80 headset, the 788 is worth a consideration. In the meantime, until the 780 is out of stock and ceases production, it and is one of the best values on the headset market at the moment. If you're looking for something that has reasonable versatility, but retains a focus on competitive gaming and positional audio -- and you want it to be under $80 -- the GameCom 788 would be my go-to choice.
I'll use this until they reply back to my email. Ill update you if I get a reply. I suggest you also email them asking specifically about your issue too.
Exactly in the spot where you would pull them apart to place them on your head. That's where you want them to be their strongest, not weakest. So here I am, a year later, with a broken headset. Other Thoughts: You can get better headsets for $40, you can get MASSIVELY better headsets for $70. Pros: I bought one. Then 2 more (one for parents' place, office, home) because it's so comfortable.
Has there been any major improvements made all these years later with the 788 and are the common issues still present? Read on to find out. Specifications The 788 offers you a Dolby Digital surround-sound through a USB-connected product, pumping the sound through two 40mm drivers rated at 20 Hz - 20 kHz, paired with a microphone frequency response of 100Hz - 10KHz. The rubber arm microphone is non detachable, but can be swivelled and moulded to your liking.
The game started and the recognisable ambience of the Alien soundtrack was softly caressing my ears, perhaps lulling me into a false sense of security. Instead of jumping into the storyline game I decided to try one of the shorter DLC levels (Last Survivor) as this would put me right in the action. Immediately I am inside the infamous Nostromo, panicked crew are in my ears and I hear a heart-wrenching scream as one of the characters meet a rather painful demise, the others are shouting in my ears telling me to hurry up. I run around and I can feel the ship surround me, I hear the hissing of steam escaping, my footsteps on the metal floor, the rumble of the engine and panicked breathing of Ripley. This is as close to VR as you can get without a dedicated VR headset. I hear nothing from the outside world, I am Ripley, I am in the Nostromo, and I am running for my life. As the level progresses, and I first see the Alien, I run as fast as I can down a corridor and jump into a locker.
Kindly reply to us, whether you are bale to access headset mic properly or not. Thank you, Thanks and Regards, Santosh Kumar Rai.

For nearly 2 years, my gamecom 788 headset has worked well with my 64 bit Windows 7 computer until just a couple days ago, where it is now an unrecognized usb device. I tried to install the official driver for the headset and while that worked for a day, the next day it resorted back to not being recognized. I tried the various methods except for the regedit one(can't find regedit anyway), and none of them worked.
I also found that I could keep the volume at the bare minimum and it still felt rather loud, and I would actually warn users of turning it up beyond volume level 50. Output on the 788 feels very close to the head and is delivered fairly centrally to the ear -- there's certainly no 'five rows back' simulation going on here. Some higher-end headsets we've used are capable of adding more depth to the audio (especially when using DTS technology), to the point of competing with true surround speaker setups and the depth inherent in physical distance from the listener.

I may have also done some other stupid stuff that might possibly mess up my computer. I even tried plugging it to different USB ports. I don't know if it is my headset malfunctioning, usb port problem(it's not like I routinely plug it in and out on a daily basis, I just kept it plugged in on my computer until this started happening) or some other problem. I just don't know how to fix this.

Chewing with the microphone up also causes it to rattle in your left ear, and the cups themselves are clearly too small for human ears, causing them to become uncomfortable during extended use. They also, for whatever reason, rotate to face backwards, so instead of becoming comfortable around-the-neck speakers, they become awkward on-the-shoulder armour. You’ll almost certainly notice these things over time, as I have, but I’m not worried about any of them. I couldn’t be bothered less by them because I adore the 788. I wouldn’t care if the cable was two feet long with exposed wires that shocked me every five seconds. I wouldn’t care if the cup pads had spikes in them. I wouldn’t even be all that bothered if the inside of the box was laced with Anthrax, because the audio experience is simply excellent.

Hip-hop does a bit better with this tech, especially music, though I'm still unsure as to whether I like the altered sound. The choice ultimately becomes a tradeoff between different types of sound. For most use case scenarios, I found it preferable to disable the Dolby technology. In testing Dolby's Headphone Technologies, I created a demo audio track with only the right ear filled -- the left did not output sound, though it was recorded in stereo.
However as others have said I wouldn't recommend it over 50 bucks. I purchased mine on sale and definitely don't regret it. The following guidelines apply to all product categories unless otherwise indicated within specific categories. • New: This means the product will ship as received by the manufacturer, sealed, with all advertised components, and with the manufacturer warranty. • Refurbished: This means the product was tested and repaired as required to meet the standards of the refurbisher, which may or may not be the original manufacturer. This seems to be a typical USB stereo headset. If it doesn't offer any special modes in alsamixer or the Windows software/driver blob enables some proprietary mode that makes it receive multichannel audio and processing audio on the device or cable plug, then stereo is all you will ever get.
Gaming headsets are becoming a rather common occurrence in today's gamer arsenal, and rightfully so. Gone are the days of scratchy microphones strapped onto sub-standard headphones, instead the replacement is gaming headsets that are rivalling even the more serious standalone headphones, albeit with the lower price tag. Plantronics is no stranger to this new wave of competent audio products, and they have an extensive line-up to prove just that. In this review we'll be taking a look at the GameCom 788, which typically ranges in the $60-$99 bracket among Australian retailers. Looking at the GameCom 788, those familiar with the previous GameCom 780 may notice that there aren't any actual changes to the build specification.
