The game is a lot better than the anime, so if you're interested in Diabolik Lovers, do yourself a favour and play the game instead of watching the anime. The only good parts were the extraordinary animation, voice acting and the music. But overall, I think it depends on what kind of character and story you like. While I enjoy a good romance with a yandere/crazy character in otome games, I'm not a huge fan of going for overly sadistic characters (and ONLY sadistic characters) so this isn't my type of story and I don't particularly think of it as a good game in that sense. Although I do enjoy the artist's work and am a fan of several of the voice actors in it. Then again, just my opinion. You may end up loving it as it is fairly popular in Japan and there are plenty of games in the series.
This shojo series was surprisingly disturbing as Yui's relationship with the vampire brothers was distinctly abusive; there may not have been any actual sexual activity but the way they drank her blood felt like a metaphor for rape. As one might expect the brothers are typical bishonen types; which only served to add to their creepiness and to be fair they are all creepy in different ways. The story was okay but took a while to really get going; early episodes were mainly taken up showing each of the brothers forcing Yui to offer her blood. That said if you want to be disturbed without seeing anything really disturbing you should enjoy this.
Seriously, you just can't enjoy this unless you like seeing the stuff I said above. It's not a sweet romance story, but a very sadistic story. There is simply no character you will like, they are all meant to be hated. Overall is 3. If you know what's good for you, avoid this anime. Don't keep watching expecting something interesting will happen, since you will only be disturbed.
Even in most good endings they end up being a couple or marrying her. Since it's an anime, the boys just stay jerks and never get to know her.

Omg I would have gone all exorcist on your ass try and say it to me in real life. The heroine is stupid. She needs to get a stake through her brain as much as the vampires need to get a stake through their hearts. They didn't even attempt to give us an akane or even a tamaki. Gone are the days when when we had heroines like himeno who were strong and smart and had self respect.
The story is built on a Japanese dating sim for girls with the same name as the series. A girl arrives at an old mystical house to live there after her father has to move because of his job.
Its mature content is average at best, if that's a factor. On the other hand, it has an interesting S/M mechanic that changes the player's attitude based on choices and it gives you some concrete story content that the CDs don't.

(Can I just say with a name like Diabolik lovers you can already take a guess at what the anime is going to be like -_-) For any one interested: over 21s, feel free to drink with alcohol. Unless you’re a Brit then 18 years old etc For under 21s coke is what I suggest. I would have enjoyed this with a good beer, except beer is expensive and I ended up using a 2litre coke bottle. -_- Also im at such a point in my life where I just don’t fancy having my stomach pumped.
I have no fucking idea. This fucking reverse harem shit just makes guys like me to want to punch a fucking hole in my screen. I don't think girls would find joy in watching other girls getting assaulted, named-called, attacked by douchebags in every fucking minute of the anime either. I'm surprised feminists haven't shoved the creators of this anime in a deep pile of gender equality shit yet. Finally after about 3 quarters of this anime, you can finally see some plot (Not as it anybody in their right mind would care about the plot anyways). Maybe the creators finally realized the shit they were making, and decided to create some character development that makes you feel more sympathetic to the vampire pieces of shits. I want these fuckers to die a slow and agonizing death the sooner, the better.
It was a bad period, and what I hoped would be an anime to cheer me up-sadly did quite the opposite. I was left feeling bored, but also with a niggling feeling that something about this anime wasn't right. Then I dared to re watch it again after having become acquainted with decent anime, and actually took a few moments to pause and think. The result I re evaluated it to be a 3. The characters are all pervs, pushy, and to be blunt straight up abusive.
The vampires refer to mortals (but let's be honest, they mean women) as empty containers meant for the use of the vampires. They even scoff at how Yui must be 'enjoying it' (because all women love rape right?).
So question, if it was this bad why did I even watch it at the first place? My answer, it was because, at first I was hoping that some miracle or something will save the main protagonist ( I'm referring to the chica, Yui), but, the end result was the main character ends up being one of them despite of the near death horrors she underwent in the hands of six bastard vampires, frankly only the life story of them six bastard vampires were the only consolation here everything else sucks. The art, well I'm not much into the art thingy, by I do say, those vampires' fashion were too dorky to say the least, that even my hommies would laugh out loud when they see them, also their hairstyle, hummmmm, kinda makes them look like a bunch of dirty old matrons, most notably Kanato and Reiji who both resembles an 8O year old faggot. Thought them seiyus are good in portraying the characters, it was the opening theme that kinda tick me off, the characters on the other hand, well Yui maybe the only protagonist, she pretty much a stupid one and quite frankly her sweetness isn't enough for me to change my rating for the character category, since most character's do nothing but suck on Yui and sometime they do a some other nasty things. So even-though I've said that I've given all of this anime category a flat one, I'm still gonna present it the way it is suppose to be. Story: Pathetic 1 Art: same Sound: same Character: same Enjoyment: same Since the otome game version would be more fun to enjoy than this anime. Overall: same Where, I only have two words 'THIS SUCKS!'
What you will be getting is 3 hours of continuous blood draining, she is bitten by like 3 of the brothers per episode and miraculously, she does not develop anemia or pass out regularly from blood loss even though the boys go HARD in the blood. Also she never has any marks on her neck when the next guy has a go unless it is valuable for them to notice (eg. 'oh I see so-and-so has already been here, what a guy.' There was even a scene where one vampire bit her then when he went to bite her again the previous marks were already gone.
Also it horrified me that when I did my research I came across reviews giving the anime scores as high as 9/10 O.o the overwhelming amount of reviews that praised this anime, means I feel a need to inform those who are potentially looking to enjoy this anime? You won’t, unless you fulfil one of the criteria mentioned in my review. I’m even warning those who read regularly lol. If you are a fan of the show, but believe you can handle it (I tip my hat to you for your outstanding bravery) and I say now. This is my opinion. I respect that you may have your own opinions, and do feel free to comment if you enjoyed it (I don’t bite-only in my reviews not the comments).

I get it, they're vampires, and could probably overpower her. But goodness gracious, couldn't she have tried a little harder? The Sakamaki boys even told her to get out while she could, but no, the twat couldn't even manage to do that. Sure, the boys may be pretty (and maybe you’re reading this thinking that you’d be fine with it all because they are such eye candy) but good God, are they assholes, and the fact that Yui just lets them be like that is beyond irritating. No one likes watching a show where they want to repeatedly slam a metal chair into the main character’s head. Okay, actually, that was rather violent imagery, so just ignore that.
Diabolik Lovers drives you completely into the scary and creepy atmosphere of a horror series like, Another. This atmosphere is present from the beginning until the very end, and is really addictive because it gives you the feeling that anything could happen to the main character. The story could be simple at first.

Uh, I guess the story is that some girl moves in with a bunch of messed-up-in-the-head guys and then it turns out that she doesn't even have a brain. Something along those lines. Maybe you like vampires.
This stays bitter. Let's start by saying one of the only positive things about this anime; It actually portrays vampires as they really are. They won't protect nor love you, but will suck your blood.
That's it, actually. The reasons remain unknown and there's no clear direction for the plot to go in.
Diabolik Lovers Otome Game Review
The mansion the characters live in has some artistic value with an English-like architectural design. Unfortunately, the atmosphere of the series obliterates any sense of artistic value since it twists around the idea of sexual abuse. The soundtrack is mediocre at best with an eerie like background. The way the show handles itself hardly comes as any special in terms of OST because most of the time, you’ll be listening Yui fighting for her life and screaming her lungs out. The screams she lets out is a cry for help but no one ever comes. I do give some credit to the ED song though as it creates a sense of darkness.
With the circumstances as such, one would have to imagine WHY I like this particular programme so much. Simply put, it's BECAUSE it's so outlandish and bizarre to the point where it almost becomes an obsession. I didn't call this 'The Room' of anime for no reason.
Diabolik Lovers Haunted Dark Bridal, abbreviated as DiaLover, is a Japanese visual novel developed by Rejet. Plot The heroine, Yui Komori is a positive-thinking girl who nevertheless is troubled by seeing spirits and experiencing poltergeist phenomena. In her second year of high school, Yui’s father, a priest, has to move to overseas due to work and she is not allowed to accompany him. Yui instead is given a certain address by her father and instructed to go there, saying the people living there are “relatives”. Yui follows her father’s orders and arrives at a mysterious mansion as the address had suggested.
But if they do open up, this show has already completely lost my interest. After 5 episodes of this filth I'm not willing to stick around to find out. It seems like in this anime, rape is some taboo but exhilarating thing.
Excluding some psychopathic ghosts who seem important at first, but end up adding nothing to the show at all. Even though it couldn't have been saved anyway. [CONCLUSION] One of the worst female leads ever, and some of the weirdest harems ever. Like I've said a dozen times already: just don't watch this. ~Enjoyment~ 1/10 I don't know how you'll feel when watching this show. You may burst out laughing, you may start crying (whether it be of laughter or of depression).

I guess that's what should be expected from a story about dysfunctional vampires, but I personally figure if I didn't enjoy the characters from the taste the anime gave me, I probably wouldn't enjoy spending even more time with them in a game. The taste the Amnesia anime gave me was enough to say I wanted to get to know the guys better, even if I really thought the anime sucked. It's a fun ride if you like the series itself (getting in through the voice actors/drama CDs and becoming attached to the characters that way, for instance, makes it a lot easier/fun/tolerable), but the gameplay itself. Could be better, could be worse? Certain routes are locked at the get-go, so you might not even get to pick your favorite guy for your first playthrough.
Began streaming the opening movie on Thursday for Chaos Lineage, the latest in Idea Factory and 's Diabolik Lovers romance-simulation game series. The game will release on the Switch on March 28. It tries to add some humor to its dialogues but this comes out as awkward and senseless. Thank goodness each episode is less than the typical 24 minutes or I would of screamed my lungs out for it to be over. Ultimately, I did stick around the show to see how it developed or ended.
Diabolik Lovers is the perfect example of how to not adapt a shoujo anime series based off a game. The shows' sadism and vampire rape tones is almost an insult to viewers itself. Yui is one of those characters that is unbearable to watch. At various times, I found myself siding with the vampires since they at least have a control of their characters' degree. Oh and the humor? It's blend as dry paint.
The protagonist, Yui Komori, is a selfless girl who gets treated very badly by the Sakamaki Brothers. In just 1 episode she gets bitten 3 times (minimum) or more. Please, this anime is no romance, it is all about abusing and it is clearly shown the protagonist is one hell of a masochist. In every stinkin episode she has to trip (seriously, like all of the sudden this rock appears and she just trips over it) and suddenly gets abused by one of the creepy, insane, sadistic brothers. You can forget about character development because nothing actually happens.
Unfortunately, it proves once again just how much of an abomination it really is. Now a lot of people hate this anime cause they either say its a rape anime or the story is terrible or they just don't understand it all together. Yes the story is confusing unless you have played the game or read the game story line, it is best you do either of those before you watch this anime or for all I care, you can watch this first and read the story line later. Anyway, the story is about Yui Komori, who is your gentle, average 2nd year high school girl, who was raised by her father who happens to be a priest. Her father is sent overseas for work and Yui is left in Japan and is sent to live at the Sakamaki household, which is made up of six brothers, when she arrives, the brothers are not all what she expected, it turns out that they are all vampires. My thoughts on this show.
