If its an older game you are playing and you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8 it may not work, if you right click the.exe file and choose Properties and then Compatibility you can change this to run in Windows 98/ Windows 2000 etc. You can find more information on the Beginners Help page.
It appears as though since the new 1.09 patch has come out some of you have not been able to play on the net. But, then it seems that I was expecting a new NoCD patch to come out because I had not yet downloaded the 1.09 patch. The solution is: there wont be a new NoCD patch. The 1.08 NoCD patch still works, and if it does not work for you, then there is either something wrong with your instalation of the patch or you are using a different patch other than the most recent dARWIN 1.08 patch. Try using the 1.08 patch again and follow the instructions carefully. I have had to do nothing cuz my NoCD patch still works and it does for several others I have talked to.
Solution: Uninstalling and installing Diablo 2 again and copying only the MPQs from the CD that are not present in the Diablo 2 directory. IIRC you also need d2video.mpq and d2xvideo.mpq As for using cd-key viewers that only work with old patches, you can actually revert patches, but I don't remember how. Just google it, and make sure to back up your game directories before attempting anything. As such, obscure parameters such as -gamma, -lq and -vsync now work correctly. I figured if Blizz release 1.11c anytime soon I wouldn't want to go checking back three versions worth of changes:). Point of interest: it seems -nocleanup works backwards, ie 'no cleanup' is on by default and if you specify -nocleanup, D2Loader will go through the normal D2 shutdown procedures (close sound, unload DLLs, etc). Now that the cleanup ordinals are mapped, -nocleanup works nicely and does a 'graceful' close of Diablo II. While I don't want to change any defaults, I'd recommend you use -nocleanup on your command line to do a graceful exit instead of ExitProcess.

• Changed Telekinesis to only work on scrolls, potions, keys, gold, arrows and bolts. • The mouse-over functionality of hireling portraits has been changed. You now must keep your mouse cursor over your hireling for three seconds before the portrait highlights and the text 'Drop potion on hireling portrait, right-click to open inventory' appears. • Gold sharing has returned to it's functionality before patch 1.08.
This allows further features that would require a command line option. -nohide command line option. If set, will subclass the main D2 window handle and block WM_ACTIVATEAPP/0 from reaching D2, which will prevent the D2 window from hiding when it loses focus. Diablo II usually gobbles up 100% CPU time when not hidden (see below for a 'fix' for this), so running multiple windows with -nohide could cause some significant slowdown. Don't use this in full screen mode for obvious reasons. -sleepy command line option.

You are still the Owner/RegisteredUser of the programs you make an image of. It is not the software company who makes these programs that do the unscrupulous things, it is the end user who has to behave. Most end users will make an image of their disc, put the disc back in the box, then put the box away for archiving in case they need to reinstall at a later date or something.
