I dumped the NIC drivers for those new Broadcom 57xx ethernet chips into the boot image and it started working. It's strange as I have never had to do that with any other network drivers.

I tried that and it worked. I had to get the network card to work, because I had to activate Windows 7 Ultimate. Back in the old days(1990s), we had to manually install drivers. Back then, drivers didn't always work, so it was pain to get computer peripherals, like network cards, modems, sound cards, videos cards, printers, scanners, and other devices to work. The built in recovery partition will not work, so I have installed a fresh copy of 64 bit Windows 7, but Device Manager tells me there is no ethernet adaptor installed. I have, as usual in these cases, been on the Support/ Downloads site using the tag number, and downloaded what appears to be the correct driver, Broadcom 57XX Gigabit Controller, v.16.4.0, A07 and Broadcom 64bit 57XX Driver/BACS combined update package, R296615, but neither will install.

Right, I've had the deployment for Windows 7 working on all of the machines in the school (Optiplex 760's, SX280's, 755's D520's etc.) Now we have a new Optiplex 380 in so we try and deploy W7 to that and this is what happens after clicking on 'Install new OS ' I've downloaded the Network drivers from the Dell website and injected them into the share. The issue we are having in our district is we created a base image using Windows System Image Manager and have everything configured using SCCM. When we had our techs re-image the stations in our district (Dell Optiplex 755, 760, & 9010) all with our win7 64-bit image they all worked & imaged no problem. PLease have your Administrator add the network driver for this machine to the windows PE image on the Windows Deployment Services server' The steps we took to try and resolve this so far was to obviously search the web with technet articles etc, with very little success. I did notice that some people were having similar issues specifically with the 380, and their 'work arounds' did not solve our problem.
